JEFFERSON AIRPLANE
1968

This was my second poster for the Fillmore East and was based on a fascination I had for Egyptian temple painting and my feeling that Grace Slick could have been a Queen of the Nile, at least she could drink like one. The show was opened by Arthur Brown, who at the time was famous for setting his hair on fire as a finale. I conceived of the Airplane band standing on the wing of an Egyptian biplane, in hues of terra-cotta, turquoise, & ochre watercolor with black Ink on a cream-colored board.

Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NYC & The Museum of Rock, Cleveland.
