Washington Square
Arch
   1975

Another of the 30 drawings from the book I did with Paul Goldberger. Washington Square Arch, the center of the Greenwich Village, was originally designed in wood by McKim, Mead & White for the 1876 US Centennial Celebration and replaced with stone by 1892. I do remember that the tall building poking above the arch, #1 Fifth Avenue, held the bar where the Saturday Night Live cast drank and snorted after the show.

Graphite on Vellum.
